Gente Unida is a human rights border coalition bringing together individuals, organizations and initiatives focusing on human rights, legal rights, social advocacy, and environmental justice programs with an emphasis in and around the border between the United States and Mexico.
Gente Unida, a non-profit 501c3 organization, is called to speak for and highlight the works of those working for social justice and to find collective means working across institutions to feed, protect, cloth and comfort those in our community that have little access to resources due to their nationality, immigration status, age, gender or political/legal status.
The mission and programs of Gente Unida focus in three main areas: 1) Education, and telling the truth about the immigration phenomenon; and changing the perception of the migrant; 2) The importance of voting in November 2020; and 3) Educational and arts programs for Migrant / Refugee children, especially in partnership with migrant shelters in Baja, California.
Founded in 2005 by Enrique Morones, also founder of Border Angels 1986. GENTE UNIDA is a non profit volunteer organization based in San Diego which lives with the mission of promoting Love, Truth and Justice. “Love is an action, not just a word” and “Love has no Borders” are two of Enrique’s best known quotes. GENTE UNIDA organized a coalition of 65 organizations in 2005 to expose and in large part shut down hate groups and individuals such as The Minutemen vigilante groups, racist individuals such as Bill O’Reilly (Fox News), Lou Dobbs (CNN) and Joe Arpaio (Arizona) . GENTE UNIDA helped organize national and local campaigns such as ” No human being is illegal” and “Move the Game” (Major League Baseball All Star Game out of Arizona). GENTE UNIDA has been mostly “underground” the last several years, but has recently returned due to he terrible rise in hate of 2016.

“Never has there been a more important time to organize, rise up and speak the truth. Our voices will be loud and clear as we fight for justice,” according to Morones. “Our grandchildren will ask, ‘what did you do, while children were taken from their parents, caged and several died in immigration custody?’ We responded, we acted with actions of love and fought for justice.”
